Driver Fleeing Traffic Stop Hits, Kills Pedestrian POSTED: 6:16 a.m. EDT September 8, 2003 BALTIMORE -- Baltimore City police said a driver fleeing a traffic stop struck and killed a pedestrian Sunday morning. The incident occurred in the Greektown neighborhood in southeast Baltimore. Police say an officer made a routine traffic stop and was preparing to write the driver a ticket when he sped off. The car struck Patricia Aul and Eric Pennington as they were crossing the street. Aul was killed. Neighbors say she was hard of hearing and likely didn't hear the car coming. The driver of the car has been identified as Tony Jerome Curtis, 23. Police say both Curtis and his passenger are facing traffic charges and could face vehicular manslaughter charges. Police add that they didn't find any drugs or alcohol inside Curtis' car, so they're not sure why he fled in the first place. |
